CTEP Graphic Design Student Wins “Join the Movement” Art Contest

Ride 4 Life graphic poster The winner of this year’s Green Ways to School and Ecology Action “Join the Movement” poster contest is Matt Hohmann of Soquel High School. Matt is a student in Soquel’s ROP Graphic Design class, and his work will be featured on hundreds of Bike to Work and School posters, t-shirts, and other promotional materials for the whole county! Matt will also receive a $100 prize for his stellar submission.

On Friday, February 27th from 7pm-10pm at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH), there will be an opportunity to vote on which contest submissions should receive additional recognition in over 10 categories. Many of the submissions are from students in the ROP Graphic Design classes at Aptos High and Soquel High. Forty favorite art pieces will be selected from the art on display, and the community will be asked to vote on their favorites at What the Cruz Teen Nite. What the Cruz is a production of the MAH’s Subjects to Change Teen Program. There will be live music, bike-powered spin art, lots of cool young people to connect with, and the event is free. The MAH is located at 705 Front St. in downtown Santa Cruz.

During the 1st week of March the forty contest finalists will have their art posted on the Bike to Work Facebook page. The pieces with the most Facebook votes at the end of the week will win! Winners will be announced the week of March 9th!

Soon after, prizes and awards will be distributed. Winning artwork will be on display at Free 1st Friday at the Museum of Art and History on May 1st.
