A Message from the Superintendent

How to Get a Look at State of Education Countywide

As this school year comes to an end, it is time to reflect and to begin preparations for the upcoming year. There have been many successes and challenges along the way. Educators continue to do more with less and find ways to create engaging educational environments for students. Creativity and innovation that supports 21st century learning is critical to the development of our students—the next generation of leaders for our county.

The partnerships between the schools, families, and larger community are the backbone of any success in the changing world of education. Your involvement in these partnerships is important and necessary.

For the past six years, the Santa Cruz County Office of Education has provided a program, Inside Education, that provides community members a deeper look into education across the county. Through a series of intensive half-day seminars, classroom and special program visits, Inside Education is a hands-on program in school settings that informs participants on issues, opportunities, successful programs, challenges, and the business of educating students.

Inside Education begins the journey through education in Santa Cruz County with an exploration of preschool education. The program progresses through all venues of public education including career technical education, small school districts, elementary education, middle school education, high school education, charter schools, alternative education, special education, and outdoor science school. The path through Inside Education truly provides a complete picture over the course of the full year.

Research continues to show that student achievement improves when parents and community members are involved in their schools. Inside Education provides a means for meaningful involvement to be fostered between communities and schools.

I invite you to broaden your view of education as an Inside Education participant. To learn more and for registration information, contact Cheryl Brothers at 831-320-3625.
