ROP Medical Technology and Health Careers Students Share with the Community

ROP Medical Pathways Students and Teacher Donna Marie Stahl

Donna Marie Stahl, ROP instructor of Medical Technology and Health Careers Pathways classes at Harbor High School, recently reported on her studentsí participation in sharing resources in our community.

ROP Medical Pathways Students Share Donations

Community member Emily Dore does a lot to help our community by running a local children's clothing exchange which supports children and families in our community, called Free 2 Be A Kid Santa Cruz. Free 2 Be A Kid is a children's clothing exchange that takes place on the first Saturday of every month from 9:30-11:30 am at the Live Oak Grange Hall at 1900 17th Avenue in Santa Cruz. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend. Free 2 Be a Kid also is available to foster families and in emergency situations as a relief source.

In addition, Emily Dore is participating in Operation Christmas Child which is a world-wide organization that provides Christmas boxes to children all over the world. Through this organization, groups and individuals receive empty shoe boxes to fill with toys and hygiene items to send to these children.

ROP Medical Pathways Students Donations Operation Christmas Child

Donna Marie Stahl's ROP Medical Pathway students at Harbor High thought it would be rewarding to participate in Operation Christmas Child and show how much the students care about these children even though they do not know them or know where the gifts would be going. In addition, the students who participated are not just Harbor High students, they are also Medical Pathway magnet students that come from all the different schools to take these ROP classes: San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley, Soquel Union, Santa Cruz, Delta, Cypress, Coast Redwood, Costanoa, and the Ark. These students gathered toys, art supplies, toiletries and much more that would fit in a shoe box. These items were presented to Emily for distribution and will soon be on their way to some very special children.

"I am so proud of my students, they have such empathy and compassion for others," say Ms. Stahl.
