ROP Success Stories

Watsonville High School Library - ROP Digital Photography Exhibit

ROP photo exhibit on wooden display rack

The ROP Photography course at Watsonville High is taught by Jeffery Jay Luhn and has 105 students in three sections. With a generous grant from Bay Photo, each student had a 12 x 8 print made and mounted for the show. The photos are assignments, which gives the viewer a good idea of what the class covers.

Evan Clark's Construction Technology class prepared wood for the display racks and Jeff assembled them. The show is currently on display in the WHS library until May 30th. After that it will move to a public space in Watsonville.

ROP Adobe Behance Portfolio - Review Panel Presentation

Harbor High School Graphic Design, Digital Photography and Video Production students participated in the Adobe Behance Portfolio Review. Twice a year, Behance organizes portfolio reviews across the globe and artists present their work for review by industry representatives.

Santa Cruz County Regional Occupational Program Instructors, Larkin Wilson and Jenny Angelacos organized the event and selected class portfolio winners to present to the panel.

The event provided students with a valuable career preparation opportunity to present their work and receive valuable feedback from a panel of industry representatives. One of the eleven students received a one year subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud based on a recommendation of the panel.

Thank you Larkin and Jenny for your efforts for students.

An Innovative Approach to Marketing a Course

ROP Marketing exhibit

Watsonville High School Criminal Justice students marketed their course using photography. They captured the many different roles of criminal justice at work in the community and displayed their photographs at the 2nd Street Café. Thank you for making this opportunity possible for your students Martha Vega.

The ROP Biotechnology Class Attends a Conference at Stanford University

ROP Biotechnology Class at Stanford

Harbor High School's ROP Biotechnology class attended the Biomedical Computation Conference at Stanford (BCATS) that was held on April 10th. This field trip allowed our students to experience a real scientific conference where world-class researchers, industry specialists, and graduate students all shared about advances in their fields. While gaining insights about what their possible future careers hold, the students also got to enjoy several tours of Stanford laboratories led by PhD students.

BCATS proved to be a wealth of knowledge for the Biotech class, from learning the differences between an engaging or dreary talk to simply experiencing the campus of an elite research institution.
